SGI Institute is the registered brand name of one of the gemmological institutions in Myanmar. SGI brings modern gemmology to Myanmar and provides all leading and sophisticated technologies of gem testing by state-of-the-art equipments.

SGI was originally founded as MACLE Gem Trade Laboratory which was established in 2003 by current SGI Director and Chief Gemmologist, Dr Kyaw Thu, renowned gemmologist.

Global gemmology is focusing today on origin determination, gem treatment detection, owner authorization and block chain ownership tracking. Due to this transition in the industry MACLE Gem Trade Laboratory updated its gemmological institute and SGI, modernizing its facilities to a gemmological institute and laboratory based on international standards. SGI owns rich gemmological experience, comprehensive gemstone database and solid research background in identification, grading and geographic origin determination of coloured gemstones.
